Current Methods for Comparing 2D PAGE Gels

• Build database of two gels using 2D gel computer database systems on local computer. However,
  1. Difficult if gel image data is not available locally
  2. Time consuming if only want to compare one spot

• Visually compare gels - by overlaying gels on light box. However,
  1. Difficult to match spots at times if gels have quite different morphologies - due to different:
     • gel sizes
     • pIe isoelectric ranges
     • MW gradients
     • chemistry, etc.
  2. Need to have both gels or copies of images
