2. Comparing 2D PAGE gels for putative spot identification
- Scientists around the world often work on similar data
- Comparing 2D gels may be useful for suggesting putative
protein spot identification (eg. Melanie, Quest, GELLAB, PDI,
BioImage, etc.)
- Could build database of two gels using 2D gel
computer database systems
- Difficult if gel image data is not available
locally
- Time consuming if only want to compare one spot
- But, good for long term multiple-gel
multiple-spot databases
- Could visually compare gels - by sliding one gel
(film or dried stained gel) over another other on light box
- Difficult to match spots at times, even with
overlaying the gels
- Difficult if gels have quite different
morphologies
- Need to have both gels or copies to do this
