8. Image enhancement sometimes makes comparison easier
- Image enhancement may correct distortions
making comparison easier
- Spatial Warping - affine or polynomial transforms
are useful for correcting distorted gels
- Eg. comparing linear and non-linear gels,
or different ampholine ranges.
- Warping
- maps one gel image to the geometry of
the other gel image
- requires corresponding landmark spots
in each gel to solve transforms
- then uses inverse transform to warp one gel to
morphology of other gel
- Edge sharpening - improves spot definition for
fuzzy spots
- Contrast enhancement - makes it easier to compare gels
or regions with different overall darkness
