Select Pair of 2D Gel Images to Flicker Compare from cached
2DWG or your URLs
Image sources: These two sources include the 1) cached images
from the 2DWG catalog of 2D gel images, and 2)
URLs that you enter for any image file on the Web. Note that if your
computer has an FTP server, you can compare your own images by copying
them to your FTP server and just referencing them with a URL of the
form ftp://host/image-file.
Alternatively, a more complex version of this page is 2D gel images from Flicker-Server
cache, 2DWG meta-database URLs or ANY Web image URL.
Self-publishing images: This means that users can self-publish
their own gel images on their own FTP server. FTP servers are either
included or are easily installed on Microsoft Windows95, Windows-NT,
Macintosh and UNIX systems which are connected to the Internet via
TCP/IP.
Image formats: For now, the images
must be GIF or JPEG formatted images. In the future, it
will handle TIFF, XWD, PS, PS2 files. Images must be less than about
1.5 Mbytes or they will be rejected.
Web URLs allowed: Only http:// and ftp:// protocols are
accepted. Note that image files specified by CGI-BIN locations may not
currently work.
Image loading times: if you use the explicit
URLs, loading will take much longer (could be on the order of minutes)
since the Flicker server needs to read the gels from the Internet and
then pass them back to Flicker running on your web browser. Gels from
the NCI Flicker Server will load the fastest.
Image file names: The gel images listed in the NCI
Flicker-Server or 2DWG scrollable selectors below are sorted by
2DWG 'WBnnnnn identifier and are listed with the (tissue-type,
species, cell-line). If the 2DWG identifiers and short descriptions
are not obvious to you, you may want to
search the 2DWG.for the WG identifiers.
